Privacy policy
Last updated 8 October 2026
mettl is a personal app for keeping the commitments you make to yourself. What you write in it is private to you. This page explains, in plain words, what mettl records, why, who handles it, and how you can get it out or delete it.
Who we are
mettl (mettl.me) is made in New Zealand. In this policy, “we” means mettl. You can contact us at hello@mettl.me.
What we record
- Your email address. You sign in by email. We send you a sign-in link, and there is no password.
- What you create in the app. Your Threads (their names and settings), your Commitments, how you closed each one (Met, Not Met or Prevented), and any Reflection you chose to write.
- Your time zone. mettl needs to know which day it is for you, so it records the time zone your phone is set to, and the dates it changed.
- Your plan. Whether you have the free plan or mettl Complete, and when a subscription runs to. We do not see or store your card or payment details. Apple or Google handles payment.
- Basic technical records. Like any online service, our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs (such as the time of a request and the IP address it came from) so the service can be run and kept secure. We do not use them to track you.
Some things are kept only on your phone and never sent to us, such as your signed-in session and a note of what each Thread last looked like on screen.
What we do not record
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics or tracking tools in the app.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
- We never sell your information or share it for marketing.
Why we record it
Only to run mettl for you: to sign you in, to keep your Threads, Commitments and Reflections, to work out each day correctly, to show your history, and to know which plan you have.
Who handles it for us
- Supabase hosts the database, sign-in and the server that runs mettl. Your information is stored in Supabase’s Sydney, Australia region. Supabase also sends the sign-in email.
- Apple and Google handle in-app purchases and tell us whether you hold mettl Complete.
- RevenueCat, once purchases are switched on, helps us check purchases across the App Store and Google Play. It receives an anonymous account identifier and your purchase details, not your Threads or Reflections.
Because the servers are in Australia, your information is transferred there from wherever you use mettl, including New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, everything linked to it is deleted from our live service straight away (see below). Our hosting provider may keep routine backups for up to seven days, and your information drops out of them as they expire.
Your choices
- Take your Reflections with you. Menu → Export Reflections sends all your Reflections to the share sheet on your phone. This is free on every plan.
- Delete your account. Menu → Delete Account permanently deletes your account and everything in it. See how to delete your account, including what to do if you can no longer open the app.
- See or correct your information. Email us and we will help. Everything we hold about you is what you can see in the app, plus your email address and time zone history.
If you live in New Zealand, you have rights to access and correct your personal information under the Privacy Act 2020. If you live in the United Kingdom, the European Union, California or Australia, you may have similar rights under the laws there. Contact us to use any of them.
How we protect it
Everything travels between your phone and our servers over an encrypted connection, and each account can only reach its own information. No online service can promise perfect security, but we keep what we hold to a minimum for exactly that reason.
Who mettl is for
mettl is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app. The latest version is always on this page.
